Fourth of the July

My first 4th of July married! …was spent without my wife. She’s been Chicago living the dream (the dream, as in visiting a new city with a good friend). Heard they had better fireworks or cupcakes or something up there.

Did get to spend the night with extended family, however, that were in town visiting. They’re a military family so they move homes about every 3 years. I’ve visited them in St. Louis, Germany, etc. so it was fun having them visit for the weekend. Fireworks had a greater sense of patriotism with them. My cousin had to go inside a few times as they reminded him of mortars and my aunt and I discussed the Star Spangled Banner.

As we observed neighborhood fireworks from the backyard (which were quite good, actually), I was happy to be spending the 4th with family and glad the city of Fayetteville allowed fireworks in the city limits.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows 3rd Trailer

I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan, in that I never read the books, but I do love CGI and am looking forward to this movie.

Andrew Belle

I’ve been playing Andrew Belle’s latest project, “The Ladder”, consistently since the day it came out. It’s a great cd that pulls you in with a few favorites and keeps you listening to the rest because of the caliber of the songs [he didn't just pump out some other crap songs to get a full cd]. First round of favorites for me included: “The Ladder”, “Static Waves”, and “Oh my stars”. If you like Mat Kearney, then I’m confident you’ll be a Belle fan.

John’s poem

My friend, John, wrote this poem. I really enjoy it.

Julie’s Books

I hardly ever mark my books,
though now and then I underline
in pencil, quietly, as if
tiptoeing through some sacred place,
a garden, or an art museum.

But when I borrow Julie’s books
her thoughts – in pen – parade the aisles
like charismatics sputtering
eternal truth in human words,
inspired by some unseen god.

She tells me not to read her notes,
but they become a second plot
that overwhelms the first. For me
she is the central character,
the climax, and the denouement.

Fireplace nook

Just found this image on Daily Icon. I would change the furniture if it were my place, but the architecture just draws me in and makes me want to go to there. Rustic, wood timber around a sleek, metal fireplace. So choice.

INSPAceRATION

Ever since I received postcards of photographs in space when I was in kindergarten (which I still have), I’ve always enjoyed and been inspired by images from space. The colors, forms, composition, scale, and dream-like view of the Heavens is amazing.  Here are some beauts taken from the Hubble.

Engagement pictures

Terra and I went to Springfield about 2 weekends ago to meet with Janae Hardy. Janae is our wedding photographer who spent her time and talent that weekend taking really amazing engagement pictures of Terra and me. She’s a great photographer and has a personality that’s really fun to be around – I highly recommend her. Here are a few that she’s posted on her blog.
